About this episode
A lawn that looks tired is usually telling you about something below the surface rather than on it. In this episode we work through the difference between grass that is dead and grass that is dormant, why thin and patchy areas appear in the first place, and the checks you can do yourself with nothing more than a spade and a ruler.
We then set out the order of work that brings a struggling lawn back: aerate first to open up compacted soil, scarify to lift thatch and moss, treat what is left, overseed into the gaps and feed to drive recovery. Doing those jobs in the wrong order wastes most of the effort, so the sequence is the point.
The voices on this podcast are AI-generated. The lawn advice is not. It comes from Ian Kenyon, who runs Shrekfeet Independent Lawn Professionals and sits on the UK Lawn Care Association committee.
